Composite deck replacement : deck replacement in Southeast Wisconsin
A worn backyard deck replaced from the footings up with a low-maintenance composite deck and black aluminum railings.

The old deck had done its job, but the painted boards and railings were worn out and the stairs had seen better days. Rather than patch it, the owners chose to replace it with something that wouldn’t need staining every few years.
We tore the old deck out down to the dirt and poured new concrete footings below frost depth. Then we built a new pressure-treated frame, with beams, joists and stair stringers set level and square, before the composite decking and aluminum railings went on.
What took the time
- Footings
- New concrete footings below frost line, so the deck doesn’t heave in Wisconsin winters.
- Framing
- Pressure-treated beams, joists and stair stringers, with hardware rated for treated lumber.
- Decking
- Composite boards: no staining, no splinters.
- Railings
- Black aluminum railings and stair rails that won’t rot.
